Chinese Grand Prix Brought Forward A Day Due To Typhoon Everts Set For Anniversary

Chinese Grand Prix brought forward a day due to typhoon: Everts set for anniversary

Singapore's van Gisbergen claims pole for season-finale

The Chinese Grand Prix has been brought forward a day due to the approach of Typhoon Mitag. The race will now take place on Saturday, 14 October, instead of Sunday, 15 October.

The decision was made by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) after consultation with the Chinese Grand Prix Corporation. The FIA said in a statement: "The safety of the drivers, teams and spectators is our top priority. We have taken the decision to bring the race forward a day in order to avoid the potential impact of Typhoon Mitag."

The typhoon is expected to make landfall in China on Sunday, bringing with it heavy rain and strong winds. The FIA said it was "unlikely" that the race could be held safely in these conditions.

The change of date will mean that Nico Everts will now make his 100th start in the Grand Prix on Saturday. The Dutchman is currently fourth in the standings and will be hoping to finish the season on a high.

The Chinese Grand Prix is the penultimate race of the 2023 season. The final race will take place in Abu Dhabi on 22 October.
