Laudato Si Movement

Season of Creation 2024: Hope and Action with Creation

Introduction

The ecumenical Season of Creation, celebrated annually from September 1 to October 4, has chosen the theme "Hope and Act with Creation" for 2024.

Origin of the Laudato Si Movement

2015: A Kairos Moment

The Laudato Si Movement emerged in 2015, a kairos (opportune moment) marked by:

  • The release of Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si' on Care for Our Common Home
  • The adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change

Response to the Pope's Call

Inspired by Laudato Si', the Laudato Si Movement was established as the Global Catholic Climate Movement. It is a community of Catholics committed to the Pope's call to action for environmental stewardship.

Laudato Si Movement: Empowering Grassroots Leaders

Today, the Laudato Si Movement (LSM) is a global network comprising:

  • Over 900 Catholic organizations
  • More than 10,000 grassroots leaders known as Laudato Si Animators

Praise for Creation

The canticle "Laudato Si' mi Signore" by Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is:

  • A sister, with whom we share our existence
  • A mother, who sustains us and provides for our needs
